Boones Creek Elementary is a K-4 school with 58% of the students economically disadvantaged. Our value-added scores are the direct result of the school's motto "Children First", and a school climate enriched with both academic and emotional support.
Activities unique to Boones Creek Elementary are:
- K & 4th grade Parent Orientation/transitional program
- Principal assesses results/feedback of Fun-Fact Friday (school-wide timed math fact test (1-4) weekly and every 3rd week school-wide writing prompt.)
- Tutoring by Career Ladder III teachers & Principal
- Principal gives motivational speech to students as needed
- Grade-level meetings with Principal
- 4th grade organized with both departmentalized & self-contained classrooms offered
- Parents asked to listen to their child read 20 minutes each night/participation charted
- Workshops for parents on how to help with reading & math
- Math manipulatives with research-based strategies
- Reading/writing/math across curriculum with assessment and on-going tracking
- Attendance incentives
- Principal provides school-level inservice study groups. Ex. Ten Best Teaching Practices by Tileston; "Interpreting of Test Scores" by T. Leonard; "Understanding Poverty" by Rita Pierson
- Principal arranges substitutes while teachers attend staff development
